Fitting Methods
Previous examples of metal railings for garden walls are found in our gallery section of railings. We have produced many designs and individual requirements of style, and method of installation. We can fit you metal railings for garden walls using posts and base plates to the wall capping in between pillars set into the wall core drilled through stone capping dressing the wall or by mounting the railings using straps which are fitted down the side of the wall; See images 5 and 12 in the railings gallery.
Design approaches
Our workshop equips us to produce your metal railings using a variety of approaches depending on your budget. Our budget railings typically use less material and hand-forged parts to keep costs down. There are parts that can be bought to dress the railings and this approach will reduce costs versus hand-forged parts. See images 2, 3, and 33. If you are looking for bespoke designer railings to enhance your property we can approach this using traditional blacksmith forged detailing to produce a heritage look or contemporary depending on your project. Great examples of hand-forged detailing you will find in images 7,16,25,29,32 and 35. These examples show forged work used in traditional, contemporary, sleek and organic styles. Images 27 and 28 are great examples of different approaches using our CNC cutter. We can design any geometric, organic, or pictorial design of your choosing using our computer software to then cut the image to place in the railing panel. Within this process we would pay attention to the measurements of your railings making any adaptations in height or angle so that your panels fit the location perfectly. Images 12,19 and 34 are great examples of a garden wall railing that is functional, and traditional in form and approach and show how great a repetitive design either hoop or straight bar railings can look.
Quotation, Measure and Fitting
Your Garden wall railings will be fitted by ourselves, we would first begin by discussing your project and any design ideas you like accompanied by some rough measurements and photos you are able to take we will be able to quote your job. We would then typically undertake a site visit to firm up the measurements, discuss any building works that may be prepared for your project and liaise accordingly if required. If your walling and or pillars are present our measurements and fitting approach will be directed for us. Any templates of complex shapes, curves, drops, angles, and site levels will be taken. In terms of cost implications the more straightforward the run of railings is, the less time-consuming and labor-intensive it will be to produce.
Restoration of Metal railings
Metal Garden wall railings that require restoration and repair can be done on-site or taken away and refitted. Often these may require shot blasting to remove old paint work, and areas of decayed metal work replaced either by re-forging missing parts or recasting any missing finials there may be.
Finishes
There are many different finishes available; high build vinal paint finishes are low maintenance lasting many years before repainting needs to be considered. These are available in different sheens matt to gloss and low sheens in between. Our most popular finishes are satin finish Black or t-washed galvanized. T - wash is an acid etch applied to the zinc galvanized coat we would quote as standard. The galvanizing process coats the mild steel railing in zinc which protects it from the elements and rust. It has a bright sheen to it at this stage which can be polished or lacquered to achieve interesting highlights. See image 20. T - wash provides a dulled-down silver achieving a range of lead-like greys, see images 16, 21, and 29.
